Leh Ladakh Tour – My Travel Journey (11)

Early morning at 7 AM we were back on the highway towards Sarchu then for Leh our Leh Ladakh tour final destination. I have read somewhere every adventure brings its individual uncertainties or fears. The only place where one can live without uncertainties or fear is ‘grave’. That’s how many individuals live: they only appear to be alive. They are breathing, they are doing their jobs, but it is not life. Life can mean only one thing and that is continuous adventure, always moving from the known into the unknown. Next check post was around 7 kms in Darcha, then after registration we moved forward on ascent route to Baralacha La via Zingzingbar. There are streams flowing across the road, in bad weather sometimes it becomes difficult to move ahead due to these powerful water streams but in our case we were bit lucky. The water in these streams is directly coming from glacial melts is ice-cold and one should avoid getting drenched in water-crossings on the highway. Post Baralacha La there is around 2 km of descent towards Bharatpur followed by around 40 Kms ride to Sarchu which at the height of 4300m is a military base and registration check post.

At such heights low air pressure (less oxygen) is a major concern. This causes several problem related to altitude including acute mountain sickness, headache, giddiness, queasiness etc. though we were carrying sugar candies, chocolates, energy drinks etc. but our goal remained to reach Leh as soon as possible. The whole Leh Ladakh region is having cold climate even in the summer month April-May we could feel the chill in shady areas of mountains also especially in nights. Though during daytime its comparative warm with clear sunshine, from Sarchu next registration post is at Pang which 80 Kms, then crosiing various other check post and dodgy roads of Tanglang La, Gya, Upshi and Karu we finally reached Leh at around 8.30 Pm. It is one of its kind happiness reaching a major checkpoint of our Leh Ladakh Tour.

Leh Ladakh Tour – My Travel Journey (8)

Leh Ladakh Tour – My Travel Journey (8)

Many fellow travel companies publish on their websites or advertisements that ‘Guaranteed Fun’ or ‘Adventure Guaranteed’ on so and so trip or tour or vacation. We at Cosmovision Tours Services Pvt. Ltd. strictly don’t use the term ‘Guarantee’ in reference to an adventure or fun on the trip. The travellers who are always looking for guarantees, consciously, unconsciously; they are waiting for certain signs that truth should be certified. “Then we can go into any adventure” but one has to understand it is NO more adventure if it is guaranteed. We just went few meters ahead on our path to Leh Ladakh towards Manali a member of the Australian group insisted others to go in for river rafting. The route from Kullu to Manali is full of river rafting clubs on both sides of the roads. Though, it is always suggested to bargain a bit as rates vary too much for the same set of rafting services. There are 2-3 options of river rafting as per the timings varying from 20 minutes to an hour or more downstream rafting in Beas River. The rafting itself is very fascinating experience altogether, the scenic beauty on the both sides of the river is second to none. river rafting Post river rafting soon we entered Manali, it is situated at the height of 2050m and the last major town on the way to Leh Ladakh. Some of the major attraction in Manali are Beas Kund, Hadimba Temple, Maa Sharvari Temple, Kalath Hot Water Springs, Vashist Hot Water Springs and Temple, Jogini Falls, Solang Valley, Jagatsukh, Rahala waterfalls, Buddhist Monasteries, Old Manali, Gauri Shankar Temple at DASHAL village, Naggar, Krishna Temple at Thava and Zana Falls etc. Once you enter Manali you could easily feel the essence of Buddhism with certain monasteries and monks roaming around could easily be spotted. I personally have been following certain books on Buddhism as religion so it augmented my interest. We had plans to stay there for a day visiting few of above said tourist places in Manali before moving further to Leh Ladakh.

Leh Ladakh Tour – My Travel Journey (7)

Next day early morning we started our journey toward Leh Ladakh via Manali. The route between Kullu and Manali is picturesque with river on one side of the road and plush green hills on the other side. Though road was under repair work at certain junctures which slowed us down to a bit but overall it was magnificent experience. Suddenly near Biasar our car’s rear tyre got flat, luckily it was near a riverside cafe. Though it was small but the view from the cafe was mesmerizing in true sense. The cafe owner placed certain tables and chairs just into the water on the riverbed so that tourist can enjoy sipping hot coffee while their feet in the icy cold water of the river. Meanwhile the driver was changing the tyres, I went to see if he requires any help with the same.

Unlike us there were few of other tourists who seem to be taking an intentional break from the journey by parking their respective cars at this cafe to enjoy the view of the river. A cute small child was asking his mother sitting on their car’s bonnet just next to us, “Mom why is that all white colour cars always overtake us, tell dad to buy white colour car instead of red”. His mother replied politely, “Son it is not the ‘colour’ which takes the car faster rather it is the engine that matters”. Same time a thought struck in my mind that this same concept applies on all of us too. As humans it is all about one’s body’s inner energy or soul (as mentioned in certain spiritual books or followings), that is the aspect which takes us to the new heights or speed in life. As I possess no athletic or adventurer body type but still my enthusiasm or self motivation pushes me to explore the most remote destinations in India including some of the highly difficult tracks or places in the Himalayas. Soon the driver changed the tyre and we were back on the track to Manali which was only few hours of drive ahead.

Leh Ladakh Tour – My Travel Journey (4)

People who know me for years ask me about my passion of exploring the remotest destinations in India especially in the Himalayas, some of which are really extreme climate situations, am I not afraid of any accident or death? – Few years back I asked the same question to a spiritual person on my way, travelling to a village near Kedarnath, Uttaranchal in India which is a famous spiritual destination of Northern India, he replied to me that to face my fears or confront them that will make me comfortable of the presence of the unknown phenomenon like death. So from that day onwards, one may or may not find me attending any sort of celebrations like marriage or birthday parties but you will definitely find me standing at any last rites ceremonies or funerals. I observe them closely and have developed an inner strength to diminish my fears of the death. The meaning of death for me is not the end of life but just an inevitable phase of life. Coming back to our travel journey to Leh Ladakh, we started our journey early morning from Delhi to Chandigarh via Panipat.

panipat

The group booked a Toyota Innova car for this trip as it is reliable and spacious for such a long journey from Delhi to Leh Ladakh. The route from Delhi till Manali including Chandigarh amply contains food joints or famous eating joints. Some of world class brand outlets including Mc Donald, KFC, Subway, and Dominos etc. are in abundance so no need to carry food, water or fuel up till that point. Our first stoppage was at Panipat for breakfast and visiting Kabuli Shah Mosque built by Emperor Babar which is a Mughal architecture marvel and tomb of Bu Ali Shah Kalandar. After a quick visit we were back on highway towards Chandigarh. The Australian ornithologists group was quiet concerned about the technology access in Leh Ladakh as they wanted to upload pictures on several bird watcher’s community websites and their respective blogs. Though Leh Ladakh is at extreme height and climate conditions but I assured them the technology connectivity fairly good comprises of several internet cafes and cell phone connectivity through service providers like Vodafone, Airtel and BSNL etc. though in some areas there is a network problem.
